An Unforgettable Evening of Tango: A Night of Dance with UK Champions Adrien & Iro!
In July 2024, Birmingham was set alight with passion, rhythm, and the elegance of Argentine Tango as we hosted Milonga en el Cielo—a weekend to remember for dancers and enthusiasts alike! From an exhilarating Saturday night of dancing to the inspiring workshops and Mini Milonga on Sunday, the event brought together a vibrant community of Tango lovers from across the UK, high above the Birmingham skyline at Eighteen, 103 Colmore Row, the newest and tallest building in Birmingham.
✨ A Special Performance by UK Tango Champions ✨
We were incredibly honoured to welcome the 2023 UK Tango Champions, Adrien Bariki-Alaoui and Iro Davlanti-Lo, for their first-ever appearance in Birmingham. This talented duo, who made history as the youngest Tango champions in the UK, left us all speechless with their breath taking performance on Saturday evening. Their graceful movements and deep emotional connection to the music set the tone for an unforgettable night, reminding everyone why they’ve been recognized not only in the UK but Internationally too.
Their performance embodied the essence of Argentine Tango—an elegant balance of technical mastery and emotional storytelling. The audience was captivated, and it was clear that Adrien and Iro brought a piece of Buenos Aires to Birmingham. Their status as Ambassadors of the Argentine Embassy in the UK shone through every step, as they shared with us not just a dance, but a cultural experience that touched the hearts of everyone in attendance.
🎶 A Night of Dancing with DJ Diego Doigneau 🎶
The atmosphere was electric on Saturday, much of that was thanks to our incredible DJ, Diego Doigneau. Diego, with his deep love for music and years of experience playing at some of the most renowned Tango festivals worldwide, created a musical journey that kept us dancing well into the night. His selection of Golden Era orchestras, with a hint of modern flair, perfectly matched the mood of the evening. The dancers were transported, gliding across the floor with grace, inspired by the seamless blend of rhythm and melody.
🌟 Workshops with Adrien & Iro: A Learning Experience Like No Other 🌟
The weekend wasn’t just about dancing under the stars, it was also about growing as dancers. On Sunday, July 14th, Adrien and Iro led a series of three immersive workshops, each designed to deepen participants' understanding of Tango.
The Keys of Tango helped dancers radically improve their fundamentals with expert tips and techniques that instantly elevated their performance.
The Art of Soltadas introduced dancers to new dimensions of freedom and excitement, encouraging exploration and creativity within the structure of the dance.
Ganchos & Boleos offered a masterclass in adding flair and stability to movements, showing dancers how to blend precision with passion.
These workshops weren’t just about steps, they were about finding your own voice within Tango, as Adrien and Iro emphasized the importance of each dancer’s unique identity. With their deep knowledge of biomechanics, they broke down movements in a way that made Tango feel accessible to dancers of all levels. We were truly immersed in what were master classes. Both Adrien and Iro shared a higher level of teaching to Birmingham for those who attended.
